We run rigorous qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods studies that are built for use: baselines (rolling or retrospective), midlines, endlines, impact assessments, case studies, Most Significant Change, and value-for-money across the five Es.
Evaluations
Studies that change the next decision, not just the next report.
An evaluation that does not change the next decision is decoration. We design studies for the meeting after the report.
What you get
- Baselines configured as rolling or retrospective where timing requires flexibility
- Midline and endline performance reviews focused on learning and adaptation
- Impact assessments using the most suitable design (RCT, DiD, matching, synthetic control)
- Case studies and Most Significant Change to surface beneficiary and partner voice
- Cost analysis and value-for-money assessments across the five Es
How we work
-
Frame the decision
Who will read this, when, and what will they decide? The evaluation is built around that, not the other way round.
-
Pick the design
Most-suitable design for the question, the budget, and the time. We do not sell a method; we sell an answer.
-
Run it
Mixed-methods field teams, sampling and power calculations, contribution analysis.
-
Hand over the decision
Concise report, slide brief, and a 30-minute readout for the meeting.
Why Merstat
- Methods chosen for fit, not fashion
- Assumptions and limitations are explicit, not hidden
- Findings tied to recommendations with named owners
Frequently asked questions
When is a baseline not a baseline?
When the project has already started, when the population has shifted, or when the indicator definition changed. We use rolling and retrospective baselines where they are the right answer.
Do you do RCTs?
When the question demands one. We do not push experimental designs where quasi-experimental or contribution analysis fits better.
